Achieve Literacy Greater Saint John
A child’s ability to read is fundamental to their school and life success. Achieve Literacy GSJ, a team of business, education and community leaders, is championing a community-wide response to help every child learn to read before Grade 3. There are many ways you can help make Literacy a BIG PART of every child’s day – in their home, school and throughout the community. For more information, contact BCAPI.
Literacy is a community-wide responsibility.
Here are a few ways to help a child learn to read:
Make reading, talking and writing FUN!
Read with your child 20 minutes per day.
Discuss the stories with your children. Include follow-up questions and actively listen to their response.
Sing songs or recite nursery rhymes; play rhyming and riddle games.
Encourage children to write and draw daily.
Support our educators and students.
Find out how you or your company can become a PALS (Partners Assisting Local School) Partner.
Talk to your local school or daycare centre about how you can help.
Children need books in their hands! Donate to libraries, childcare centres, recreation centres, and any place that children gather.
Hold a literacy fundraiser for a neighbourhood, school or community organization.
