Make a Difference.
Today in Saint John more than 20 per cent of residents, 25 per cent of children, and 50 per cent of single parent families live in poverty. Join the Business Community Anti-Poverty Initiative (BCAPI) in the effort to substantially reduce poverty in Saint John.
BCAPI’s size means it can operate very efficiently to affect change in our community. The money we receive allows BCAPI to yield real results. The impact even a small contribution makes is tremendous.
BCAPI’s approach is guided by research and best practices that address the root causes of generational poverty. BCAPI helps Saint John acquire the necessary assets to break the cycle. Tracking and evaluating the progress is VERY important to our success. Over the last two decades, BCAPI has made important strides. Our work has contributed to:
Reducing poverty in Saint John from 27% to 20.8%
Improving education outcomes for low income children and youth from early childhood to high school completion.
Playing a pivotal role in innovations that achieve results.
Establishing Living SJ - Our city’s movement to end generational poverty.
Serving as a catalyst for New Brunswick’s first poverty reduction plan.
Championing public policy improvements to ensure every child succeeds.
BCAPI and its partners have achieved much and grown since our inception in 1997 thanks to the leadership and generosity of the business community. However, more needs to be accomplished to end generational poverty in Saint John. The ongoing and growing support of the business community is vital to scaling up this valuable work.
